Promise?

Promise?

I’m a bad liar, because I remember the day that I said I didn’t need you.

I can tell the truth because when you said you didn’t love me, I had the courage to say that I didn’t believe you.

There has been darkness and secrets, promises broken and tell-tale lies.

Hopelessness, helplessness and endless illusions we had been taught all our lives.

How I hated you at first how arrogant you were,

Who knew that another lesson we would learn was how to endure.

How silly you must have thought I was,

Endless talking and intensity, passion is as passion does.

Two sides of a coin, no one was more amazed than us to find.

Both far too practiced at deception but finally seen through dual jaded eyes.

We never believed in love but we ended up believing in ours.

With the sleet falling, and ice coating the windows of the car.

So much more than most we have been lost.

So much more to us was the guilt and the cost.

But when I was lost you came for me.

When I had nothing, you became my everything.

And when you were lost I came for you.

I fought so hard, the only thing I knew to do.

I cannot promise we will never be lost again.

I cannot promise no darkness I cannot promise no sin.

But I know this, when you are lost I will come for you.

So offer me this promise, you will always come for me too.

A Very Important Date

A Very Important Date

Well the date is finally set

Are you terrified yet?

It only took us ten yearsFeatured Image -- 200

To get here

We have been down together for so long

I forgot your name

I think it’s “Hon.”

We are complicated

But this has been pretty easy

As I put up with you

And amazingly, you put up with me

So let’s have commitment issues together

We will be

Family

And make this forever

In reality

We always knew it was going to be

I really just want a pretty dress

So thanks for humoring me

We are not the type who need paper or proof

To know that we are where we should be

This is a celebration

Not a contract binding legally

Let’s tie the knot

Let’s jump the broom

I’ll be the bride

If you’ll be the groom

Or we could switch if you want to

Whatever

As long as I get to be with you

I will save the romance for the vows

As well as the public display of affection

But I will say thank you now

For going with me in this direction

I am so happy

To give this the old college try

I know you will see this through

If I am by your side

A poem entitled The Fiction of the Fairy Tale

black roses

The Fiction of the Fairy Tale

I purchased a gift of beauty

A perfect bunch of roses of red

I took them home and prepared

For the day I would present them to you

Carefully I removed the thorns

Taking away the threat of pain

Hidden in such a lovely package

I arranged them carefully

Waiting for you to marvel

At their superiority

But instead of a romantic interlude

A battle ensued

We screamed and cried

You hated me and god I hated you

So my wonderful roses were placed

In a dark closet

Undeserving of light

You did not deserve to adore them

Time went on

We reconciled

False promises were made

It will never happen again

Time passed

The cycle repeated

But neither of us left

We remained an us

Despite the fact

That sometimes we cursed our fate

A years time

I was looking for that sweater

The one that you hate

And in that darkened closet

I found my flawless roses

They were desiccated

Shriveled and black

Dead

I presented them to you

And told their story

You cried when I said

Love isn’t perfect

It is dead, black, closet roses

With the thorns removed

Because the real thorns are in our words

But you keep them

Because even when they die

This mess that we call us

Survives
