Sunflowers

Sunflowers in the rain will turn their faces to the light
They are strong of stalk
And sway in the wind

They are resilient

If we are to face this cold winter
We should look to them
As they stand
Never breaking

When the riders of war
Refuse to fall back

When ruthlessness is ruler

The sunflowers still stand

I stand with them
In a stance of resistance

They comfort me
For flowers
Know that there is beauty beyond scorched lands

Salt the earth
They will return

The Stones Between Us

I’m so deadly jealous
You’re not mine anymore

I was never your favorite
But it’s astounding how little that mattered

A coveted title
And pedestal
Never was a good look for me

I’ll be down in the trenches with you
Blood for blood
Your hand for mine
Our backs against the wall

And one more time
If I could say the perfect thing
Between just you and me
I would speak

But instead I am your voice
The thing I said I would never forget
Like your laugh
Like your ridiculous strength
And stubborn love

I grow more jealous every day
That I simply can’t be with you
How dare the universe
Come between us

When we placed each stone between us
And it somehow brought us together
You’re pulling away again
To hide in my sleep

Forgive me
I’m slipping

Smirk and Smile

An outlaw smirks and smiles
Even with blood in their mouth

Failure is a mockery
Because we have already fallen

I am a damsel in distress
I am a god damned flower
But you will never see me swoon

You will see me select
Weapons from my arsenal
And equip my sharp tongue
Which you would be wise
To be petrified of

And as for my beloved things
I am their shield and they are mine
A marauder knows
We live for those we love

For the bravest thing that we dare do
Is to love
The most powerful tool in our menagerie
Is never losing the wonder of a child

And with wide eyes we find the whimsy in the tragedy
Our ego
Is only an excuse for our id

A ravager knows that death
Is overrated
And farewells
Are deep breaths where we never exhale

So come along with me
Fellow outcasts
Black sheep
Renegades

Find your comrades in arms
Those willing to
Smirk and smile
