Silver Fragments

The generations before us
Only memories
But memories can be so
Powerful
And we the silver fragments
Watching it all
As if on a movie screen
With good and bad blood
Trailing from our fingertips
Their secrets taken to the grave
True understanding lost
Will we ever glean
Their warm summer days
Or frigid winters
We are but silver fragments
We cry out
Despair for the endings
Despair for our beginnings
Are we lost without them?
Or better off?
Are their wrongs to be forgiven?
Simply because we remember
Those few golden moments
When they shone
We but fragments of silver
All that is lost
Is obscured
By our own justice
Our own depravity
Until the days when
We become gold
In the memories
Of those who come next

Today

Mistakes and accidents
Missteps and calamity
I am a distaster in motion
A broken playground
But natural light
Shines through
And I can’t hate myself
Forever
I shine
Sometimes
My strength
Is overwhelming
I am more than
Where I came from
I am more than
I realize
I am a pattern
Beautiful in it’s tapestry
Slyly I am secretive
For I am an enigma
Deserving
And ashamed
But today I
Will fight
Today I will
Triumph
Today I am worth it
