A Shimmering Mirage

California in the summer

A shimmering mirage

Heat that thrums in your ears

Like a migraine

It never seems real

It feels like it should be white sand

Not blinding light

That serves to make suburbia

Garish and tacky

As we all pause

Waiting for the heat to ignite

To bring destruction

Cleansing the facade with fire
